Dorchester County hires Tiffany Norton as Public Information Officer
September 20, 2016CHARLESTON, SC – On September 19, 2016, Tiffany Norton became Dorchester County’s first official Public Information Officer (PIO). In her new role as PIO, Ms. Norton will oversee the county’s social media and website, manage and respond to Freedom of Information Act requests in coordination with the County Attorney, and provide timely information to our citizens, businesses, staff, visitors, and the media.
Ms. Norton previously served as the Events and Media Coordinator and Public Information Officer for the Town of Summerville where she has worked since 2014. Prior to joining the Town of Summerville, Norton served as Marketing & Advertising Account Executive for Viamedia and she served in the U.S. Coast Guard on active duty and in the reserves until she was honorably discharged after seventeen years of distinguished service.
Norton has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Political Science from the College of Charleston and is currently pursuing the Certified Public Communicator’s certification. She is a member of the City-County Communications and Marketing Association, National Association of Government Communications, National Information Officers Association, Low Country Type 3 All-Hazards Incident Management Team, and the Summerville Junior Chamber of Commerce.
“Tiffany Norton is an experienced PIO with many contacts within our local media and a strong connection to our emergency management community. Dorchester County is excited to add another strong member to our team,” said Jason Ward, Dorchester County Administrator.
“The hiring of a PIO will help the county, ‘Improve information communicated to the public,’ which is one of the key results that County Council identified in our strategic plan. Our goal is to do a better job of keeping citizens, the members of our business community, other governmental partners, and visitors informed of our plans and actions,” said David Chinnis, Chairman of Dorchester County Council.
