Dr. Franklin named consulting superintendent at John de la Howe School

MCCORMICK, SC – Dr. James A. Franklin of Evans, GA has been named consulting superintendent of John de la Howe School by the school’s board of trustees.
The new, part-time position was created last month based on guidance from the South Carolina Department of Education and offers greater flexibility in meeting the requirements of various accrediting and oversight entities, while better allowing the school to meet the needs of its students.
A native of McCormick, Dr. Franklin most recently served as interim superintendent of McCormick County public schools, a post he held in 2013. Prior to that, he served 10 years as assistant superintendent of McDuffie County Schools in Thomson, GA. Dr. Franklin also served in a number of other administrative roles in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia in an educational career that spanned four decades.
Dr. Franklin graduated from Mims High School in McCormick and earned his undergraduate degree from South Carolina State University. He went on to earn the Master’s degree in education as well as the Doctorate in Educational Administration from S.C. State. He is certified and licensed as both a superintendent and principal by the states of South Carolina and Georgia.
In this new role, Dr. Franklin is expected to work closely with Dr. Danny Webb, who was named President of John de la Howe on June 19, and with Jonathan Rose, principal of the L.S. Brice School on the John de la Howe campus, in meeting the educational needs of the school’s students.
