Dr. Laura Basile of University of South Carolina/Palmetto Health Richland to serve as March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction chair

The March of the Dimes is pleased to announce that Laura Basile, M.D., M.S.P.H is serving as the chair for the 2018 Signature Chefs Auction in Columbia.  As the event chair, Dr. Basile will play an integral role in raising awareness and funds to advance the research and educational programs at the core of the March of Dimes mission to lead the fight for the health of every mom and baby. The event will be held on November 1st at the Columbia Marriott.

Dr. Basile is a neonatologist and clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of South Carolina/Palmetto Health Richland. She is originally from the South Bay area of Los Angeles, California and received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Riverside before moving to South Carolina. She received a masters of public health in epidemiology and then a medical doctorate degree, both from the University of South Carolina.  She then completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of South Carolina/Palmetto Health Richland Children’s Hospital.

March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction will be held on November 1st at the Downtown Columbia Marriott.  Signature Chefs Auction is the premiere fundraising social event for the March of Dimes Columbia Market, featuring 15 of Columbia’s top chefs, unique live and silent auction packages. Two hundred business leaders, community philanthropists and health care providers from many of the top corporations in Columbia attend each year. During its 23-year history, Signature Chefs has raised more than $12 million dollars to help tackle the biggest health threats to moms and babies.

Funds raised by Signature Chefs Auction help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) family support programs and advocacy efforts for moms and babies.

Today, one in every ten U.S. infants is born premature, including more than 6,000 in South Carolina. The March of Dimes is committed to funding research to find the answers to problems that continue to threaten the lives and health of babies.
