Dr. Nancy Tolson to Speak at Friends of the Library Program

Dr. Nancy D. Tolson will speak to the Friends of the Laurens County Library.

The presentation, entitled “The Importance of Diverse Children’s Literature,” will be held at the Laurens Library, 1017 West Main Street, Laurens on March 3, 2024 at 2:00 pm. This program is free and open to the public and is presented, in part, by South Carolina Humanities. Refreshment will be served following the presentation.

Dr. Tolson is the director of undergraduate studies in the African American Studies Department at the University of South Carolina. She is presently part of the South Carolina Humanities’ Speakers Bureau, a storyteller for the A(ugusta) Baker’s Dozen Storytelling (Richland Library and USC), and a member of the Stone Soup Storytellers (Woodruff, SC). She is the author of Black Children’s Literature Got de Blues: The Creativity of Black Writers and Illustrators and Tales of Africa along with various critical and creative works found in various academic journals and books. Dr. Tolson is a commissioner for the Columbia Museum of Art and is also a Coretta Scott King Book Awards Juror for the American Library Association.
