EdVenture Children’s Museum presents ‘Be A Boss’ Youth Summit museum teaches leadership skills and self-confidence to over 200 students

October 4, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC –  EdVenture Children’s Museum is pleased to announce the BeABoss Youth Summit on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brookland Banquet and Conference Center. EdVenture will welcome over 200 middle school students from Richland One for a day of learning and enrichment. The BeABoss Youth Summit is designed to help students develop leadership skills, increase self-confidence, maintain a healthy self-image and create plans for success.

Students will attend this one-day conference for free and receive resources to help support their continued development. BeABoss breakout sessions feature topics on health and wellness, civic responsibility, leadership, vision and goal setting.

“Often times when categorizing children, society defines this subset as “at risk” but EdVenture believes that all children can achieve if given a chance, so we use the term “at promise,” said Nikki Williams, vice president of External Relations at EdVenture. “We are excited to bring students and teachers together to support and encourage young people because it only takes one person or opportunity to change a young person’s path in life.”

Students in attendance will receive pearls and a scarf or a belt and a tie along with a BeABoss shirt, book bag and a Dream Box. Students from EdVenture’s youth volunteer programs created the Dream Boxes filled with books, donated supplies and a special note of encouragement.

Corvida Raven, CEO of SheGeeks.com is the keynote speaker with special presentations from Steven Hughes, CEO of Know Money, Inc., Aaron Bishop, Pastor of Grace Christian Church, Chandra Mcpherson, victims advocate of Orangeburg SC as well as other local leaders.

Special guests from Columbia City Council, Richland County Council and Richland One School Board will attend. BeABoss Youth Summit volunteers include representatives from Webster University, Benedict College-Education Department and Concerned Black Men. Exhibitors include Columbia Urban League, Blue Choice, Flextronics, Girls Scouts, Midlands Tech, and other local colleges and universities.

“We invite students to bring your A game and join us for an afternoon of dreaming bigger, thinking broader, and building the best possible you!” said Brittani Lane, Director of Extended Learning at EdVenture.”
