Ireland-based manufacturer to invest $17 million

ANDERSON, SC – E&I Engineering, Ltd., a provider of switchgear and power distribution solutions throughout the United Kingdom and Europe, plans to invest $17 million to establish its first U.S. operations in Anderson County. The investment is expected to create 250 jobs over the next five years.

E&I will acquire the vacant 50,000-square-foot Supreme facility on Harris Bridge Road with plans to expand the complex to 150,000 square feet to accommodate manufacturing of switchgear and busducts.

Headquartered in Donegal, Ireland, E&I has more than 650 employees across its European headquarters and its plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The company posts annual sales in excess of $150 million with an extensive list of blue chip company clients across all sectors.

E&I’s switchgear is custom-built, assembled from type-tested building blocks, manufactured and assembled in-house. The switchgear division produces a complete range of equipment for large-scale industrial and commercial projects in multiple sectors including financial services, data centers, hospitals, commercial offices, petro-chemical, marine, utilities and manufacturing.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project.

“The E&I Group has been highly impressed by the support and assistance offered to us by many of the South Carolina government departments, including the Department of Commerce, Anderson County Economic Development, the Department of Health & Environmental Control and, indeed, Anderson County Council. All of these departments really signified to the E&I Group that South Carolina is a business-friendly, proactive place to do business and were key in our decision to select Anderson, South Carolina as our “home county” for our production facility. We congratulate Governor Haley in running a highly efficient and well-organized, business-friendly state,” said Damian McCauley, group production director for E&I Engineering, Ltd.

“E&I’s wonderful announcement adds to an exciting couple of weeks in our county. We are fortunate to have a motivated, top quality team made up of our local and state officials, economic development agencies and our own economic development staff. This announcement is evidence of their success in working together to bring industry to our community. Attracting quality companies such as E&I ensures our economic sustainability for future generations,” said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn.
