Miller-Valentine Breaks Ground on New Regional Distribution Center in Lexington County Industrial Park
COLUMBIA, SC – June 26, 2009 – Years of planning between Miller-Valentine Group and the owners of the Lexington County Industrial Park have come to fruition with the June groundbreaking of the new 465,000 square foot distribution facility for a major home improvement retailer, slated to open in January 2010 in the Lexington County Industrial Park located on Hwy 321 near I-26 and I-77.

The project, one of the largest industrial buildings built in the Midlands, has been years in the making but won’t take years to complete— with an aggressive 28 week plan for the new “tilt-up” concrete building, which will include 171 dock doors and 18,000 square feet of office space. “Miller-Valentine Group has over 47 years experience in this type of construction, which provides us with intimate knowledge to sequence the phases of work and provide the intense project programming needs to meet the client’s timeline,” says Kurt Eyring, vice-president of construction with Miller-Valentine Group. “As a matter of fact, in a project like this, we will be pouring footers, standing wall panels and putting on a roof all at the same time.”
Coming at an ideal time, when unemployment is the news of the day, the distribution center is expected to employ approximately 300 people. “This truly is great news for Lexington County and the Midlands,” said Mark Simmons, executive vice president of the Central SC Alliance. “This is a great example of how our County government has worked successfully with a private company to provide needed capital investment and jobs.”
