Emily Gifford of Richardson Plowden Certified as a Circuit Court Mediator

COLUMBIA, SC – Richardson Plowden & Robinson, P.A. announced that attorney Emily R. Gifford has been certified as a circuit court mediator by the South Carolina Supreme Court’s Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification. Gifford joins 11 other Richardson Plowden attorneys who are certified arbitrators and mediators. The Firm offers alternative dispute resolution services on a statewide and national basis for business, civil, and personal injury matters.

Gifford is a shareholder of Richardson Plowden in the Columbia office. Her statewide litigation practice focuses on construction law, including surety law and commercial litigation. Ms. Gifford defends design professionals and contractors in complex construction defect cases. She has represented national, regional and local companies in construction defect matters. She earned her Master’s degree in health administration while completing her Juris Doctor at the University of South Carolina (UofSC). She also earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the UofSC Honors College.

In addition to her work at Richardson Plowden, Gifford is a pro bono special prosecutor for the Office of the Attorney General, assisting in the prosecution of criminal domestic violence cases. She is actively involved with the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS), is a member of the South Carolina Bar, and is a member of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association Construction Law Committee. Gifford has been recognized as a South Carolina Super Lawyer for Construction Litigation in 2014 and 2015. She received the “Rising Star” recognition from South Carolina Super Lawyers in 2013 and 2012.
