Erskine College unveils $100,000 pilot scholarship program makes higher education a real option for hundreds of SC Students
December 5, 2018Erskine College today announced a new $100,000 / 4-year scholarship tuition program for eligible charter high school seniors across South Carolina.
Dr. Tim Rees, Erskine’s Dean of Enrollment, unveiled the “Erskine Pilot Scholarship” at a year-end meeting of the charter schools authorized by the Charter Institute at Erskine. “Erskine is committed to opening educational opportunities for our state’s charter school students. With more than 800 seniors enrolled in Charter Institute schools, this is a significant commitment our college is making to the future of our great state.”
The Erskine Pilot Scholarship is available to every 2019 graduate attending a charter schools currently authorized by the Charter Institute at Erskine. The scholarship’s basic requirement is that eligible students must be fully accepted as on-campus residential students to the Due West, SC college for the Fall 2019 term.
“We hope that this scholarship serves as a catalyst to change family trees by putting a college education in reach for our students across South Carolina,” said Cameron Runyan, CEO of the Charter Institute at Erskine. “The Charter Institute’s mission is to empower families and local communities through high quality charter schools. With these scholarships, our parent institution is extending beyond our mission by making the dream of a college education a reality for so many students.”
“This is a game-changer,” added Dr. Brian Newsome, principal of Gray Collegiate Academy. “When you bring opportunities like this to students, you can absolutely change their lives.”
180-year-old Erskine College established the Charter Institute at Erskine in mid-2017 to improve education in public charter schools across the state of South Carolina. The Institute currently serves as the authorizer for 13 schools (8 with high school programs) with four additional schools currently scheduled to open in the fall of 2019.
The following schools with eligible graduating seniors are: Calhoun Falls Charter School, Coastal Leadership Academy, Cyber Academy of South Carolina, Gray Collegiate Academy, Oceanside Collegiate Academy, Odyssey Online Learning, Royal Live Oaks Academy, and South Carolina Virtual Charter School.
