28th Ecumenical Church and University Convocation.

Ecumenical Church and University is pleased to announce its 28th Annual Convocation to be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 4 PM at the Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC 29201. This year’s convocation will feature the investiture of James L. Felder, JD, as the third president of Ecumenical University, along with the conferment of honorary doctorates to distinguished individuals in recognition of their contributions to society and community service.

Event Highlights:

Investiture of President: James L. Felder, JD, an esteemed civil rights activist and former South Carolina legislator, will be invested as the new president of Ecumenical University. Felder’s significant contributions to civil rights and voter education have established him as a prominent figure in American history. His leadership is expected to propel the university into a new era of excellence and community engagement.

Honorary Doctorates: The convocation will honor George Dean Johnson, Jr., Doris Glymph Greene, Pastor Jimmy Jones, and Todd Turner, CEO of OTO Development. Each honoree has made substantial impacts in their respective fields:

George Dean Johnson, Jr. will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters for his influential roles in politics, business, and philanthropy, notably his involvement in the economic growth of South Carolina and his philanthropic endeavors in education.
Doris Glymph Greene, an educator and community leader, will also be awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters in recognition of her lifelong dedication to education, community service, and her pioneering work in adult education in South Carolina.
Pastor Jimmy Jones, founder of Christ Central Ministries, will be honored for his extensive humanitarian work and impactful ministry in aiding the homeless and needy across South Carolina.
Todd Turner, celebrated for his visionary leadership in development and contributions to economic growth, will receive an honorary degree, Honoris Causa.
Global and Domestic Initiatives: Ecumenical Church and University continues to expand its global and domestic initiatives, including constructing schools and churches in Africa and Asia, and establishing training camps and small community chapels across the Southern United States. These projects underscore the institution’s commitment to educational and spiritual leadership worldwide.
