The city of Charleston Business & Neighborhood Services Division will host a ‘Local Government 101’ event designed to provide citizens with a comprehensive understanding of city operations on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the first floor Public Meeting Room at the Gaillard Center, located at 2 George Street.

During the event, attendees will hear from senior-level staff representing each of the city’s departments about their respective goals, responsibilities and functions.

Meg Thompson, the city’s Director of Business & Neighborhood Services, said, “We’re always looking for ways to increase transparency and expand citizens’ access to city government, and this event is a great example. Our hope is that attendees will walk away feeling empowered to take on an active role in city affairs and with a greater understand of how every department – from Recreation to Stormwater – works to improve their quality of life.”
