On Saturday, October 10, the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble will present Land of the Free—Celebrating 250 Years of Hungarian-American Friendship at the Riviera Theater. Commissioned by the Hungary Foundation as Hungary’s signature cultural contribution to America’s 250th anniversary, this original production combines spectacular dance, authentic Hungarian folk music, vibrant costumes, and historical storytelling.

The performance brings to life Colonel Michael Kováts de Fabriczy, the Hungarian-born hussar who helped organize and train Pulaski’s Legion, introduced European light-cavalry traditions to the American cause, and gave his life defending Charleston on May 11, 1779. Presenting his story in the city where he made the ultimate sacrifice gives this U.S. tour stop special significance.

This is a rare opportunity for Charleston audiences to experience Hungary’s national dance company in a production created especially for America250. The performance is free and family-friendly.
