Lander University Hosts Screening and Discussion of Film-Noir Classic

March 18 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Lander University invites film enthusiasts and the community to a special screening and discussion of the 1946 film-noir masterpiece, The Big Sleep, Tuesday March 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Barratt Hall 126. This event is a part of the big showcase for the Lander University Film Festival, and is free and open to the public.

This event, hosted by Dr. Daniel Harrison, professor of sociology at Lander and founder of the Greenwood Film Society, will explore the film’s significance, themes and lasting impact on cinema. Known for its razor-sharp dialogue, intricate plot and the legendary chemistry between Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, The Big Sleep remains a cornerstone of the film-noir genre. The film is based on the 1939 novel of the same name, written by Raymond Chandler.

Harrison will guide a post-screening discussion, delving into the film’s cultural and historical context, its portrayal of crime and morality and the enduring allure of noir storytelling.
