Richland Library Hosts Bakari and Cleveland Sellers

Richland Library’s Let’s Talk Race team will host a conversation with Bakari Sellers and his father, Dr. Cleveland Sellers, on Tuesday, June 28 at 6 p.m. at Richland Library Main.

Bakari Sellers, is an attorney, political analyst, and author of My Vanishing Country and Who Are Your People?

In 2006, at age 22, Sellers became the youngest African American lawmaker when he was elected to represent South Carolina’s 90th District in the House of Representatives.

Sellers is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law and Morehouse College.

Dr. Cleveland Sellers is a civil rights activist and was the only person convicted and jailed for events at the Orangeburg Massacre, a 1968 civil rights protest in which three students were killed by state troopers.

He is also a former higher education administrator and served as the president of Voorhees College, a historically black college in Denmark, South Carolina from 2008 to 2015.

Sellers is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Harvard University, and Shaw University.
