F. Gene McConnell, Jr. Named Executive Vice President of SCBT
June 24, 2008ORANGEBURG, SC – June 24, 2008 – South Carolina Bank and Trust announced that F. Gene McConnell, Jr. has been named executive vice president.
McConnell, who is regional president for the bank’s Orangeburg Region, joined SCBT in 1984 as a banking officer in the Credit Administration area and two years later was promoted to branch manager at the SCBT Hardeeville office. In 1990, McConnell returned to Orangeburg as vice president and commercial lender. He was promoted to senior vice president and Walterboro city executive in 1996 and then assumed his position as regional president for the Orangeburg region in 2001.
“This is a well-deserved promotion. Gene’s leadership and dedication to the bank are essential to maintaining our number one position in the Orangeburg market,” said Robert R. Hill, Jr., chief executive officer for SCBT.
McConnell is a graduate of the Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking and attended the College of Charleston where he majored in Business Administration.
An active member of the community, McConnell serves on the board of the United Way of Orangeburg and is a member of First Presbyterian Church.
McConnell is a native of Orangeburg and has two children, Frank and Banks. He is the son of Mary B. McConnell and the late Francis Eugene McConnell, Sr. of Orangeburg.
