Family Promise of the Midlands appoints Alysha McConnell as new Executive Director
August 4, 2025Columbia, SC Family Promise of the Midlands announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously appointed Alysha McConnell as the organization’s new Executive Director. This appointment follows an extensive search process and marks a new chapter in the organization’s commitment to its mission: That Every Child Deserves a Home.
McConnell brings more than 20 years of experience in child and family development having worked extensively with local nonprofits. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Benedict College and has served in key roles supporting underserved families and individuals throughout the Midlands.
For over a decade, McConnell worked as an early interventionist at The Nurturing Center, helping families overcome trauma and hardship. She later joined Transitions, where she provided direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness and led the development of a youth program serving 18–24-year-olds. Most recently, she has spent four years at Family Promise of the Midlands as a direct service provider, working closely with families to support their journey toward stability and independence.
“Alysha brings deep experience, an unmatched passion for service, and a true connection to the community,” said Betty Melvin, Board Chair of Family Promise of the Midlands. “Her leadership will be instrumental as we expand our reach and continue to deliver on our promise that every child in the Midlands has a safe place to sleep.”
McConnell is a past recipient of the Unsung Heroine Award (2017) and is known for her ability to engage others through her advocacy and lived experience. “One voice is great.” McConnell says, “but a collection of voices is power.”
Under McConnell’s leadership, Family Promise of the Midlands is poised to strengthen partnerships, enhance programming, and deepen its impact on families in need. The organization remains committed to its collaborative model, working alongside congregations, donors, volunteers and community partners.
“We are excited for the future,” said McConnell. “Every family we help reminds me why this works matters. Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate Midlands.”
