Financial literacy teacher at Lucy Beckman Recognized by national financial organization
August 11, 2025Lucy Beckham High School announced that financial literacy teacher William “Bill” Joy was recently named as one of the eight inaugural Teacher Fellows for the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE). This new initiative identifies and supports outstanding educators who exemplify a deep commitment to the principles of liberty, individual responsibility, and free markets, which aligns with its mission to inspire, educate, and connect future leaders with the economic, ethical, and legal principles of a free society.
“What an incredible honor it is to be named a FEE Fellow and to be given the opportunity to reinforce the important principles of free-market economics and responsible personal finance management in the classes I teach,” said Joy. “We must always recognize that capitalism and freedom go hand in hand. We can’t have one without the other.”
As part of the Fellowship, Joy will collaborate with FEE’s Learning Center, a growing hub for educator support with members from all 50 states and beyond. Fellows serve as ambassadors of the Learning Center, leading professional development workshops, developing classroom curriculum, and contributing to innovative programs in economic and personal finance education.
Joy is a recognized leader in personal finance education. He serves as a South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher and has been named a Distinguished Educator by Next Generation Personal Finance. In addition to teaching, he developed a district-wide online learning management system to support fellow personal finance educators. His leadership and approach to working with students have been featured at state and district conferences, including the South Carolina Education and Business Summit and the South Carolina Finance Forum. He has been Lucy Beckham’s financial literacy teacher since the school opened in 2020.
