Fine Art + Flora at the GCMA – April 21-22

March 29, 2018

Welcome spring with the perfect pairing of fresh flowers and fine art at the Greenville County Museum of Art’s Fine Art + Flora Weekend, April 21-22. Local floral designers, including renowned floral artist Christopher Bassett, a native of Greenville and the designer behind the flowers in the award-winning film The Greatest Showman, will interpret works of art, creating imaginative displays that celebrate the GCMA permanent collection.

Fine Art + Flora Weekend is free and open to the public on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to admiring the art and arrangements throughout the weekend, guests can enjoy an ikebana demonstration on Saturday afternoon, and, for a small charge, take part in Saturday’s “Bouquet to Go” workshop, creating a take-home bouquet with the expertise of a local designer using locally farmed flowers. On Sunday, budding gardeners and their families are invited to Sunday afternoon’s Family Art Adventure. All Sundays at 2 programs are free and are presented by Duke Energy.

The weekend begins Friday, April 20, with a Preview Party showcasing the flowers at their peak of freshness along with live music and cocktail fare, including beers and wines. Tickets ($50 per person) can be purchased on the museum’s website, gcma.org. The event kicks off the museum’s annual Art for Greenville campaign, which since its inception in 1985 has raised more than $10 million for the acquisition of more than 160 works of art for the Greenville community.

Today the Greenville County Museum of Art is recognized as one of the country’s finest American art museums. Ranked by U.S. News and 10Best Travel as one of the top two places to visit in South Carolina, visitors come from around the world and across the country to see the outstanding collections of works by Andrew Wyeth and Jasper Johns along with the renowned Southern Collection, all made possible by the tireless efforts of volunteers and the incredible generosity of the community.

The 2017 Fine Art + Flora Weekend hours are from 10 am until 5 pm on Saturday, April 21 and from 1 pm until 5 pm on Sunday, April 22. For more information, visit gcma.org or call 864.271.7570.
