Sea Island Habitat for Humanity Builds Home for Ramirez Family

JOHN’S ISLAND, SC – May 6, 2009 – This morning, First Lady Jenny Sanford volunteered at the 9th Annual Women Build hosted by Sea Island Habitat for Humanity on John’s Island.

Mrs. Sanford said, The Ramirez family deserves to have this home of their dreams, and it is an honor for me to serve as one of the many female volunteers on this project. We are not only building a home, we are building confidence, skills, and futures. Furthermore, we are empowering women.

Mrs. Sanford has volunteered on the Sea Island Habitat Women Build project for several years. Each year we look forward to having Ms. Sanford build with us – she’s out there to work; which is a great example to the rest of us, said Women Build crew leader, Laura Morgan.

This year’s family sponsored by the program is the Ramirez Family.  Cuco and Jenny have three adorable sons: Matthew (7), Joshua (5) and Sabastian (2).  Cuco has worked with Custom Creations in Ravenel for 11 years.  When asked about becoming a homeowner with SIHH, Ms. Ramirez said, We don’t have words for how happy we are to have the opportunity to own a home with Habitat!  I live in a trailer that is too small for my family and my three kids cannot play outside because it’s not safe.  Women Build is helping us build a future for my sons.  Thank you to everyone helping us – we know a lot of people are helping our family.
