First Lady Jenny Sanford to Visit Spring Valley High School

COLUMBIA, SC- October 30, 2007- First Lady Jenny Sanford will kick-off the Healthy SC School Video Contest at Spring Valley High School on Thursday, November 1 at 11:30 am at the media center at Spring Valley High School (120 Sparkleberry Lane, Columbia). 

Mrs. Sanford will meet with students in Mrs. Lori McDuffie’s Introduction to Health Science class. The health science class is an elective course that is part of the career clusters initiative the state is seeing through.
Students in this class have been working hard on their videos all month and are excited to show Mrs. Sanford their videos and upload them onto OurStage.com through a customized video channel created solely for the Healthy SC School Video Contest.  To access this channel, visit www.healthysc.gov and click on the OurStage logo.

The contest officially begins on November 1st at 12:00 am. The contest is open to all South Carolina students ages 13 through High School.  Video submissions will be accepted through January 23, 2008.  Each month of the contest (November, December, January), the top two winning videos will receive $5,000 total in cash prizes.  Videos that do not win will carry over into the following months contest through the end of the contest.

The First Lady will visit with students from 11:30 to noon. Attending media should bring identification and arrive around 11:15 am to sign in at front office.  Media center is located next to front office.
