Fluor Foundation Gifts Support Students With Quick Jobs Training

GREENVILLE, SC – The Fluor Foundation has given gifts totaling $25,000 to the Greenville Tech Foundation to be used for scholarship assistance for students participating in the Quick Jobs With a Future program at Greenville Technical College.  The Quick Jobs program provides intense, job specific training that prepares a person for entry into career fields with current openings in the Greenville market.  Students are able to enter their new careers after three weeks to six months of training.

Joe Yanek, chair of Fluor’s Military Support Coalition, told the students in a CNC Machine Operator class, one of the Quick Jobs classes, that his group was “committed to assuring that veterans who have served the U. S. have the skills they need to transition to a highly productive civilian life.”  Twenty-thousand dollars of the gift from Fluor came from the Fluor Foundation’s Military Support Coalition funds, and is earmarked for support of military veterans.

The same group of students heard Cheryl Smith, senior manager of Community Affairs for Fluor’s  Greenville office, tell them that Fluor believed in “giving back to the community by helping to build the workforce of the future, and Quick Jobs is an excellent way to do that.”

Steve Hand, the director of the Quick Jobs program, expressed appreciation for the gifts from the Fluor Foundation, and said that nearly 30,000 persons have been assisted in the program’s 12 years of existence.
