James Brown, vice president and general manager of Fluor’s Greenville operations; Cheryl Wiggins, senior manager, community and public affairs for Fluor; Heather Ellis, project manager and 2016 Fluor Golf for Greenville co-chair; and Scott Brawley, vice chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind.

Fluor Golf for Greenville received the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind’s prestigious Charitable Giving Award during the school’s graduation ceremonies. The award recognizes organizations that have provided financial support to the school at a leadership level, and recipients are selected by the school’s statewide Board of Commissioners.

Fluor Corporation founded Golf for Greenville in 1989 to engage the company’s employees and vendors in raising funds to support charities in Upstate South Carolina. In recent years, tournaments have raised $290,019 for the school.

“Fluor Golf for Greenville has been an excellent partner in helping us create more active, outdoor opportunities for our students,” said Ann Akerman, chief executive officer of The Walker Foundation, the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind’s fundraising arm.

The Walker Foundation was chosen as a beneficiary of the 2012 Golf Tournament resulting in a donation of $101,070 to support the construction of a new field house on the campus. The Walker Foundation was also chosen as a beneficiary of the 2016 Golf Tournament providing a donation of almost $188,949 in support of playground renovation projects. A portion of this donation was allocated to the Cedar Springs Academy playground, which was completed in September 2016. The donation will also be used toward the School for the Deaf playground renovation expected to be completed in fall of 2017.

“Fluor is honored and humbled to receive the Charitable Giving Award,” said Bob Novak, executive sponsor for Fluor’s Golf for Greenville and executive director of material management. “While we appreciate the recognition for Golf for Greenville’s support of the school’s programs and projects, it is the partnership and alignment of our common goals – to maximize the potential of the individuals served – that we are most proud of.”
