Food Lion, Lowcountry Food Bank, and the National Association of Letter Carriers to “Stamp Out Hunger” – May 12
May 10, 2018Food Drive to Take Place May 12
The 26th annual National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive will take place across South Carolina on May 12. This food drive is one of the largest food drives in the state.
In 2017, “Stamp Out Hunger” collected 136,611 pounds of food for the tri-county area, which created 114,000 meals for food insecure children, seniors and families! As the corporate sponsor for the food drive, Food Lion has provided bags for the postal carriers to distribute in the days before the event. Customers simply leave their donation of non-perishable goods next to their mailbox before the delivery of the mail on Saturday, May 12. The National Association of Letter Carriers will then collect the food donations, which will go to the Lowcountry Food Bank to be sorted and distributed back to our community.
In 2017 it is estimated that 794,590 South Carolinians were food insecure. Children represent 29%, or 225,550, of the total number of food insecure South Carolinians. Join the fight to “Stamp Out Hunger,” and put your non-perishable goods by your mailbox to be collected on May 12!
Want to further your impact? With just one dollar, the Lowcountry Food Bank can create 6 meals for food insecure individuals and families in our community. Take part in our virtual food drive at https://secure.qgiv.com/event/928314/store/.
