For Second Year City of Laurens Takes Top Award at South Carolina Municipal Association Annual Meeting

July 25, 2022

We know great things are happening in Laurens, and it’s being noticed by others.

For the second year in a row, the City of Laurens was recognized with top honors at the South Carolina Municipal Association Annual Meeting.

This year, The City of Laurens and Main Street Laurens received the 2022 Main Street Inspiration Award for the innovative celebration of Independence Day with Laurens Lights the Night.  This award is the top award given out each year and the Municipal Annual meeting.

Mayor Senn, Jonathan Irick, Director of Main Street Laurens, and members of Laurens City Council were present to receive the award.

“Laurens is such a special place, a beautiful town with a particularly patriotic population, and Laurens Lights the Night is perfect opportunity to share what makes us so special with the rest of the world,” said Mayor Nathan Senn. “We’ve worked to stake our claim on July 3rd so that people all over South Carolina will know Laurens is THE place to be to celebrate Independence Day. And, by celebrating downtown, we’re not just having a good time, we’re supporting local businesses.  It’s great to see Laurens receive statewide recognition for the second year-in-a-row, especially for a celebration which demonstrates what a innovative, vibrant, and patriotic community we are.”
