Fort Mill’s Michele Branning installed as SCSBA President

Michele Branning, a member of the Fort Mill School District Board of Trustees, was installed as president of the South Carolina School Boards Association’s (SCSBA) Board of Directors during Delegate Assembly, SCSBA’s annual business meeting, held Saturday, Dec. 2, in Charleston.

The assembly is part of the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference each year, which serves as the precursor to the upcoming legislative session.

Branning joins seven others elected to the SCSBA board by delegates hailing from the state’s 73 school boards.

The others include:

  • President-elect, Charles Govan, Darlington County School District
  • Secretary/Treasurer, Tim Rhodes, Abbeville County School District
  • Region 2 Director, Darlene Roberson, Charleston County School District
  • Region 3 Director, Kathy Anderson, Georgetown County School District
  • Region 7 Director, Gary Porth, Calhoun County School District
  • Region 8 Director, Cheryl Harris, Richland School District One
  • Region 15 Director, Glenda Morrison-Fair, Greenville County School District

In addition to the election of association officers, delegates adopted and deleted resolutions to guide the association during the 2024 legislative session.

Branning was elected to the Fort Mill school board in 2014. During her tenure, she has served as vice chairperson of the board, chairperson of the Policy and Legislative committees and as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee.

She has achieved Level 6 distinction in SCSBA’s Boardmanship Institute, the highest level of recognition awarded by the Association. She has served as the SCSBA Region 13 director, consisting of Lancaster and York counties; secretary/treasurer and president-elect; and on the Association’s legislative, policy, finance, nominating, training and awards committees.

Before being elected to the school board, Branning spearheaded parent teacher organizations in Fort Mill, serving as president, vice president and secretary. She was also co-chair of the 2013 bond referendum initiative. She was a founding member of The Fort Mill Gridiron Club, which benefits Fort Mill High School football program. Branning served as fundraising chairperson and secretary for the first two years of the organization’s existence. She is the past president and vice president of the Fort Mill High School JROTC Booster Club.

Branning is a Rotarian and was named Rotarian of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2020. She was also recognized by The Rotary Foundation as a Paul Harris Fellow.

She is currently a licensed realtor in North and South Carolina and a top 25 percent producing agent with Keller Williams Connected and is the mother of two adult sons.
