March 1, 2026Fountain Inn Fire Chief Russell Alexander has been honored as the 2025 South Carolina Firefighter Mobilization Coordinator of the Year. The award was presented by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation’s Division of Fire and Life Safety in recognition of his exceptional leadership in statewide emergency response.
Chief Alexander serves as the Region 6 Coordinator for the South Carolina Firefighter Mobilization oversight committee. In this role, he is responsible for the rapid coordination and deployment of fire and rescue resources from the Upstate during large-scale disasters, including hurricanes, wildfires, and search and rescue missions across the state.
The award highlights Alexander’s efforts over the past year to streamline communication between local departments and state agencies. His work ensures that when a disaster strikes, personnel and equipment from various municipalities can be mobilized efficiently to assist communities in need without compromising local fire protection.

He rose through the ranks of the Fountain Inn Fire Department, becoming a full-time employee in 1999 and eventually being named Fire Chief in October 2022. This state-level recognition reflects his continued commitment to professionalizing the fire service and improving emergency preparedness both locally and throughout South Carolina.
The Fountain Inn Fire Department expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the coordinator role is a voluntary commitment that Alexander manages alongside his daily duties overseeing the city’s fire operations. His colleagues credited his organizational skills and collaborative spirit for the success of Region 6’s recent deployments.
Chief Alexander will continue to lead the Fountain Inn Fire Department from the station on North Main Street while maintaining his regional oversight responsibilities for the 2026 calendar year.
