Fountain Inn Fire Department Partners with Local State Farm Agents to Promote Fire Prevention Week

October 8, 2025

The Fountain Inn Fire Department is proud to partner with Anthony Bennon State Farm and Liz Berry State Farm Agency to highlight Fire Prevention Week, a nationwide campaign created by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and supported by State Farm Insurance.

Fire Prevention Week, observed each October, is the longest-running public health and safety observance in the United States. The NFPA has sponsored the campaign since 1922 in remembrance of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.  Each year, the NFPA selects a new theme to address today’s most pressing fire safety risks like home fire escape planning, the importance of smoke alarms, or safe practices in kitchens and around electronics.

Earlier this week, the Fountain Inn Fire Department posted banners at the Fire Stations to spread the message and to raise awareness of this year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety, which focuses on the dangers of lithium-ion batteries. Most everything that’s rechargeable uses this kind of battery.  By following these simple guidelines, you can help prevent a fire in your home.

BUY only listed products.  Look for safety certification marks such as UL, ETL, or CSA.
CHARGE devices on a hard surface, only using the cables that came with the product, and unplug or remove the battery once it is fully charged.
RECYCLE batteries and devices at a recycling location. Visit call2recycle.org to locate a recycling location near you.

“Fire prevention is a shared responsibility, and it starts with education,” said Fountain Inn Fire Marshal Rodney Crenshaw. “Thanks to the support of our local State Farm agents, we’re able to put critical fire safety information in the hands of families across our community. Together, we can prevent tragedies before they happen.”
