‘Broadway Back Together’, March 5, 2016 at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College

What happens on Broadway doesn’t stay on Broadway. Four of New York City’s brightest stars are taking a night off from their packed schedules to visit Columbia, S.C., to share songs and stories from their incredible careers in a one-night-only, live performance at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at www.HarbisonTheatre.org.

Broadway Back Together gathers four of Broadway’s most talented veterans: Telly Leung of hit television show Glee and current Broadway smash Allegiance; Mandy Gonzalez of Wicked, Aida, In The Heights and the feature film Across the Universe; Marcus Paul James of Motown the Musical, In The Heights and Rent; and two-time Tony-nominee Robin de Jesús of La Cage Aux Folles, Wicked, In The Heights and the film Camp.

“This is a terrific opportunity to welcome current Broadway stars in a remarkably intimate venue,” notes Katie Fox, Executive Director of Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College. “It’s inspiring to meet performers of this caliber, at this point in their careers, and it’s thrilling to get to do so in Harbison Theatre’s cozy, 400-seat space.”

Backed by a full band, the performances by the four Broadway Back Together stars will span the genres of classic pop, rock and jazz, as well as the hit songs from iconic Broadway shows that fans of screen and stage know and love. The evening’s song performances will be punctuated with hilarious, heartfelt anecdotes and exclusive behind-the-curtain stories from New York City’s biggest stages.

“Columbia is going to love that these stars – the future of Broadway – are taking a night off to perform with their friends for people who love Broadway music,” adds Fox. “They are the absolute ‘real deals’ of the moment.”

“Known for their lengthy resumes and numerous awards,” Fox continues, “These seasoned players represent the growing diversity of roles cast on Broadway.”

Telly Leung of Glee, Rent and Allegiance
Telly Leung is known for his role as Wes of the Dalton Academy Warblers on FOX television show Glee, and he joins Broadway Back Together during a lightning-fast break from his current Broadway role in the production Allegiance, also starring George Takei of Star Trek fame. His performance in Allegiance is currently in the process of eligibility ruling for the 70th Annual Tony Awards’ category of “Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.” Leung has also starred in Broadway productions Flower Drum Song, Pacific Overtures, Godspell and the final company of Rent.

Mandy Gonzalez of Wicked, Aida and Across The Universe
Mandy Gonzales hails from both stage and screen; best known to Broadway fans as Elphaba in Wicked. She made her Broadway debut in Aida, and has starred in productions In The Heights and Lennon. Gonzales’ film and television career includes musical drama film Across The Universe, which was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award, and 2012 thriller Man on a Ledge, alongside Elizabeth Banks. She has also acted in episodes of “The Goodwife,” “White Collar” and “One Life to Live.”

Robin de Jesús of In the Heights, Camp and Law & Order: SVU
Robin de Jesús is best known for his role of Sonny in the Broadway musical In the Heights, for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Jesús has also starred in the HBO series How To Make It In America, the 2003 film Camp alongside Anna Kendrick; and several episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Marcus Paul James of The Wiz, Live!, Rent and Motown The Musical
Marcus Paul James most recently starred in the 2015 TV production The Wiz Live!, but may be best known to Broadway musical fans for his roles in Rent. James has also starred in productions Motown The Musical and In The Heights, but he is currently focused on his role as a recording artist, having recorded two albums and the single “Living in Dreams,” recently released on iTunes.

These four Broadway veterans will win over the hearts of Midlands residents as they recount the best moments of their careers and perform ballads, current hits and popular numbers in a one-night-only collaborative performance at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College.
