Fraternity Council Works With Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands to End Sexual Violence
March 16, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – After learning of recent news stories related to sexual assault and Greek Life, leaders of Fraternity Council at The University of South Carolina decided to do something about this epidemic. Fraternity Council is leading an innovative partnership with Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands. Fraternity Council is committed to ensuring all members receive sexual violence prevention education and know how to safely intervene as bystanders.
As part of this collaboration, Fraternity Council is making a donation of $10,000 to support the annual Walk a Mile In Their Shoes benefiting Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands. Fraternity Council and STSM will announce this partnership and gift at a kickoff rally at the University of South Carolina on Tuesday, March 17, at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Russell House Ballroom.
While at the kick-off rally, participants can learn more about Walk a Mile In Their Shoes, register their teams and enjoy live entertainment and refreshments. Tim Bryson, Fraternity Council President, says, “We want to ensure our members have access to every possible resource that will work to eliminate interpersonal violence. All of Greek Life at USC is committed to creating a safe space for our fellow students.”
The sixth annual Walk a Mile In Their Shoes will be held on April 15, 2015 at the South Carolina State House. Men, women and children are encouraged to participate, either individually or in teams.
