Funnelicious supports iT2PIE with kickstarter campaign

November 5, 2013

GREENVILLE, SC – November 5, 2013 – Funnelicious is helping iT2PIE launch the inaugural Youth Programming Inventors’ Expo with a Kickstarter campaign.

The Youth Programming Inventors’ Expo is a not-for-profit event created to rally youth of all ages and groups to join the maker movement.  The workshops and expo will give students the opportunity to apply coding and physical computing concepts to cool projects that they get to build and program.

The Programming Inventors’ Expo will use kickstarter funds to purchase core projects and materials, to sponsor kids for the build workshops, and to advertise and put on the Expo in Spring 2014 which will be held at Timmons Arena at Furman University.

Makers from the Greenville Makers Group will guide the students in assembling, soldering and troubleshooting their builds and experienced programmers will guide the students as they bring their projects to life.

Participants will also be encouraged to implement research and design skills in conceptualizing, articulating, and displaying their own inventions.

The Expo marks the culmination of a year of learning for our youth programmers as they move from programming Scratch, to Python, to C and C++.  They will apply these coding skills in project based workshops which will make up the core of the Expo’s inventions.

Core inventions scheduled to be built Fall and Winter 2013 include a Robot; a Weather Station; Duino Laser Tag; a BioMedical Kit; a Home Automation Center; and Intelligent Rockets.

Steve McAleer Pennington, owner of Funnelicious, said his company supports iT2PIE  because he sees the need for youth in Greenville to learn more about technology.

Funnelicious believes that the future of Greenville relies on students learning more about innovation and computer programming, he said. We believe this is a unique and smart way to help.
