Furman’s Connie Carson Given Award For Leadership In Collegiate Housing
August 13, 2010GREENVILLE, SC – August 13, 2010 – Connie Carson, Furman University’s vice president for Student Life, recently was honored for superior work in the collegiate housing profession.
Carson received the 2010 Parthenon Award from the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I). The award, which recognizes achievement, service and leadership in the profession, is the most prestigious presented by the ACUHO-I Foundation.
The award was given to Carson earlier this summer at the group’s annual conference in Austin, Texas.
Carson came to Furman in 2008 after serving as assistant vice president of Campus Services and Planning at Wake Forest University. During her tenure at Wake Forest, Carson also was associate director of Residence Life and Housing (1987-1993) and executive director of Residential Services (1993-2006).
She earned her undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University, her M.Ed. from NCSU and MBA from Wake Forest.
To be considered for the Parthenon Award, a person must have at least 10 years of service in the housing, residential life or an affiliated profession and five years of service at the regional or international level of ACUHO-I.
The organization’s members strive to develop exceptional residential experiences at colleges, universities and other post-secondary institutions around the world. Members work at more than 900 colleges and universities in 22 countries and serve approximately 1.8 million students. The ACUHO-I also includes more than 200 corporate members.
