Furman University housing receives two Green Globes
January 17, 2023As part of Furman University’s continued sustainability efforts on campus, phase I of the North Village Housing renovation achieved two Green Globes through the Green Building Initiative, a certification program to achieve healthy, sustainable, and resilient buildings. The updates to these late 1990s structures improve the building in these categories: environmental, social, governance management, site, energy, water, materials, and indoor environmental quality. Notably, the project was recognized for installed geothermal systems, an Energy Star Performance score of 97, and for turf irrigated by potable water and from the lake.
Craig Gaulden Davis Architecture continues to implement the same standards of design and sustainability excellence to the remaining 10 buildings of Furman’s North Village Housing with Triangle Construction Company as the contractor. Each building contains twenty-four 1,200sf apartments in two- and four-bedroom configurations. In addition to Furman leadership, students were engaged in the design process to ensure the results integrated the ideas and concerns of the student body.
