Furman University Ranked Among Top Schools in Washington Monthly College Guide
August 27, 2010GREENVILLE, SC – August 27, 2010 – According to the 2010 edition of Washington Monthly’s College Guide, Furman University is among the nation’s top liberal arts colleges when it comes to contributing to the public good.
Furman is ranked No. 40 among 252 liberal arts colleges that are considered to be “service-oriented” and meet their “public obligations in the areas of research, service, and social mobility.” The annual College Guide is featured in the September/October issue of Washington Monthly magazine.
According to the magazine, the analysis is meant to measure “not just what colleges can do for you, but what colleges are doing for the country.” Its analysis rates schools in the areas of social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship), and service (encouraging students to give back to their country).
