Furman’s Center for Corporate and Professional Development Receives Innovision Award

GREENVILLE, SC – December 9, 2010 – Furman University’s Center for Corporate and Professional Development has received the 2010 InnoVision Technology Award for “Innovation in Education and Community Service.”The award recognizes Furman’s new programs in corporate sustainability.
Founded in 1999 and presented by the McNair Law Firm, the InnoVision Technology Awards program honors upstate businesses, individuals and organizations that have demonstrated significant advancements in innovation and technological progress. More than 200 participants contended for awards in six categories during the 2010 competition.
Furman’s Sustainability Business Program (SBP) is led by Dr. Brad Bechtold, director of Continuing Education at the university.
“Our vision for the program is to take the value of sustainability beyond the gates of Furman and into the Upstate community,” he said.
The SBP’s offerings include an undergraduate business course, the Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Sustainability, a small business boot-camp, an on-line corporate sustainability series, and customized sustainability training and performance consulting.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Sustainability is an intensive executive education program that addresses the applicability of sustainability principles and practices to business. It addresses issues such as creating an organizational framework for defining and implementing sustainability, making the business case for sustainability, and aligning sustainability into current business strategy.
Through the Center for Corporate and Professional Development, Furman experts educate regional and international business leaders, trade associations and industry organizations on how to define sustainability, discuss its value, and describe realistic ways businesses can implement and measure sustainable practices.
