March 24, 2010

GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC –  March 24, 2010 – The Greenville Area Development Corporation’s Annual Report to the Community detailing 2009 economic development progress and initiatives in Greenville County has been released by the organization, president and CEO Jerry Howard announced today.

The free publication is designed to provide interested county residents and business leaders with a single-stop resource that documents 2009 performance of the organization, its target segments, the GADC’s program of work, community and project highlights, investor organizations and key points of contact.  The 2009 Annual Report to the Community can be downloaded free of charge online at www.GoGADC.com.  It was included as a special insert on March 23 in The Greenville News.

The Greenville Area Development Corporation is a non-profit organization established by Greenville County Council in mid-2001 to promote and enhance the economic growth and development of Greenville County.  Since its inception, the GADC has assisted more than 150 businesses to locate or expand facilities in Greenville County, generating over 9,000 jobs and upwards of $2 billion in capital investment in the community.

Greenville County offers businesses numerous benefits, including a favorable business climate, a diverse workforce and a vibrant business community, noted Howard in announcing the newly released resource.  These attributes are just a few that keep Greenville County’s economy thriving, and this report is one way of documenting the results of the organization and sharing our programs and strategies with the community at large.  We are convinced that by keeping our community informed as to our programs and initiatives, we can better engage their assistance and support in advancing quality economic growth to benefit all Greenville County residents.

Other highlights included in the 2009 Annual Report to the Community are detailed specifics of the 14 projects announced across Greenville County in 2009, representing more than 900 new jobs and in excess of $185 million in capital investment for that year alone.  A center spread map shows the dispersion of those projects across the span of Greenville County, and includes special in-depth reports on four major announcements – by FitesaFiberweb, GE Aviation, Lab 21 Inc. and Samsung Networks America.  Economic development briefs on each of the county’s major municipalities – the city of Greenville, Greer, Fountain Inn, Mauldin, Simpsonville and Travelers Rest – are also featured in the report.

In the announcement, Howard also cited Greenville County’s commitment to quality economic development, while hailing the record 125 Investor organizations who support the Greenville Area Development Corporation.  County Council continues to challenge us to reach even higher, supporting our efforts towards generating quality economic development in Greenville County.  We are appreciative of that support, and proud of our return on investment where six dollars in FILOT (fee-in-lieu-of-tax) revenues come back to the county for every dollar in public funds invested in our organization.  And our Investors are truly the lifeblood of the GADC, and we thank them for their commitment and funding which underwrites the majority of marketing efforts by this organization.

The free publication, paid for entirely by private contributions, is available at no cost online at www.GoGADC.com.  For printed copies, please visit the GADC offices at 233 North Main Street, Suite 250 in Greenville, or call 864.235.2008.
