Georgetown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. celebrated 113th anniversary and community impact

March 23, 2026

The Georgetown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recently celebrated its 113 years of Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service. with a weekend of festivities that occurred March 20–21, 2026. The goal of the observance was to honor the sorority’s rich history and its ongoing commitment to the Georgetown community.

On Friday, March 20, the alumnae gathered for a Habitat for Humanity Day of Service as volunteers helped with one of the organization’s newest home builds. By lending their time and energy to help paint and bring this new home to life, they honored the remarkable legacy of the sorority’s 20th National President, Dr. Bertha Maxwell Roddey, by giving back through hands-on community improvement.

Then on Saturday, March 21, the chapter hosted its Founders Day Observance, with a public event that was open to the larger the community at Greater St. Stephen AME Church  in Georgetown. Dr. Cynthia M.A. Butler-McIntyre, the sorority’s 24th National President, served as the keynote speaker and reflected the sorority’s founding principles and community impact. There was a reception immediately following the ceremony.

“We invited the entire community to stand with us as we celebrated over a century of service,” said Dr. Barbara Nesmith, Chapter President. “From our day of service in honor of Dr. Roddey to our public observance on Saturday, we were pleased to highlight the work we do to uplift Georgetown.”
