Georgetown County welcomes back Loren Wallace as Emergency Manager

April 6, 2026

Georgetown County announced it is bringing home one of its former staffers to lead its Emergency Services team.

Loren Wallace of the Pleasant Hill community was named Emergency Manager of Georgetown County, returning to the county where he spent seven years building relationships, leading operations and — when disaster struck — helping hold the community together.

Wallace previously served Georgetown County as Parks and Recreation Manager from 2016 to 2023, a role that extended well beyond recreation programming. During that time, he deployed repeatedly to the county’s Emergency Operations Center as deputy logistics section chief, earning hands-on experience through some of the region’s most significant federally declared disasters, including hurricanes Matthew, Irma, Florence, Dorian and Ian.

He left Georgetown County in 2023 for a position as Emergency Planner and Mitigation and Recovery Program Manager with neighboring Horry County. In that role, he contributed to county emergency planning efforts, supported training and exercises, coordinated with partner agencies during incidents, and continued building his credentials in the field. He holds certifications as a South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager and Associate Emergency Manager through the International Association of Emergency Managers, along with an extensive portfolio of FEMA training and professional development. He is also an FAA-licensed drone pilot and licensed amateur radio operator.

A graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University, Wallace’s professional service extends beyond his day job. He served as secretary of the S.C. Emergency Management Association, founded and facilitates SCEMA’s LeadingEDGE Program, and sits on the advisory board for the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Emergency Management Program.

“Georgetown County has always felt like home to me,” Wallace said. “I’m excited to come back in this role and focus fully on the work I’m most passionate about. Emergency management is about people, and the people here are why I wanted to come back.”

Emergency Services Director and Assistant County Administrator Brandon Ellis knows the role well, having served as Georgetown County’s Emergency Manager before his promotion. He said Wallace brings exactly the combination of experience, credentials and community connection the position demands.

“We are thrilled to welcome Loren back to the Georgetown County family,” Ellis said. “He already knows this community, he knows how we operate, and he has spent the last two years deepening an already impressive body of experience in emergency management. Loren is the right person for this role, and frankly, we’re lucky to have him.”

Wallace was named Georgetown County Manager of the Year in 2018 — a recognition that speaks to the impression he made during his first tenure with the county.
