Get to know The Citadel Class of 2021
August 15, 2017The Citadel Class of 2021 officially reports to campus on Saturday, August 12. The freshman cadet recruits represent the most diverse South Carolina Corps of Cadets Matriculation Day class in the college’s history, as well as one of the largest classes.
The projected number of freshmen who are women is expected to be up by about 15 percent over 2016. The number of freshmen who identify as minorities is projected to be up 6 percent over the previous year. Most of the freshmen were born in 1999, and are considered Generation Z. Approximately 30 percent of the class is expected to become military officers upon graduating from The Citadel.
The Citadel Graduate College begins the academic year with admissions up a projected 16 percent over the same time period last year at more than 1050 students. This includes evening undergraduate, veteran, and graduate level students taking courses on campus and online. Online students attend from positions on military bases around the world and come from up to 48 states.
The freshmen and The Citadel Graduate College students enter at a time when they can select from the most robust menu of academic programs available, including the newest – nursing. Majors anticipated to be among the most popular include business administration; mechanical, civil and environmental engineering; criminal justice; and biology.
