Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands invites community to Hike, Play, Explore at Camp WaBak Community Day

March 24, 2026

Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands invites the community to celebrate the reopening of Camp WaBak’s newly restored Observation Deck Trail during Hike, Play, Explore: Camp WaBak Community Day, a free, family-friendly event on Saturday, April 25, at Camp WaBak in Marietta. The restored trail was made possible through the generous support of the Hathaway Foundation.

Hike, Play, Explore: Camp WaBak Community Day will take place at Camp WaBak, 36 Camp WaBak Road, Marietta, SC 29661, and includes a ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m. followed by open‑house activities through 3:00 p.m.

“For generations, Camp WaBak has been a place where Girl Scouts connect with nature and discover their strengths in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. As our council’s overnight camp, which opened for summer sessions as far back as 1949, Camp WaBak provides meaningful outdoor experiences that help girls build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Reopening the Observation Deck Trail strengthens that mission and expands the ways girls and their families can experience everything this special property has to offer,” said Melanie Huggins, CEO, Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands.

After the ribbon cutting, guests can tour camp and enjoy activities at their own pace, including canoeing, outdoor skills, arts & crafts, s’mores by the campfire, cabin tours, and adult‑led hikes on the newly reopened trail. Media are invited to capture visuals from the ribbon cutting and throughout the day.

Whether you’re a long-time Girl Scout family, brand new to camp, or a community member curious about what we do, you’re invited to come hike, play, and explore the magic of Camp WaBak!
