Global issues discussion to focus on U.S. relationship with Canada

CLEMSON, SC – January 25, 2010 – David H. Wilkins, the former United States ambassador to Canada who served in the South Carolina House of Representatives for 25 years, is the featured speaker at the Clemson Renaissance Center’s Global Issues Briefing at noon Friday, Jan. 29, at its new location at 55 E. Camperdown Way in downtown Greenville.

The U.S. and Canada Relationship: Economic and Political Considerations is the topic of the luncheon. The cost is $15 and reservations are encouraged at http://www.clemson.edu/centers-institutes/renaissance.

Wilkins is a partner at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP and chairs the Public Policy and International Law practice group, which focuses primarily on representing businesses on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border and offers experience on a wide range of strategic bilateral issues.

A native of Greenville, Wilkins earned his undergraduate degree from Clemson and his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He also served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves.

Wilkins was nominated for the ambassadorship by President George W. Bush. He served from June 29, 2005, to Jan. 20, 2009.

Wilkins is chairman of the Clemson University board of trustees, and is a member of the boards of Porter Airlines; the Royal Bank of Canada, North America; and the Greenville Area Development Corp.
