GMC expands geotechnical expertise in South Carolina and Georgia

December 18, 2024

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is expanding its geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services in South Carolina and Georgia in more ways than one.

Mark Van Aken, PG, will be taking on the role of geotechnical and construction materials testing manager in GMC’s Greenville, South Carolina office as the firm continues to grow these services across its footprint. With more than a decade of experience delivering geotechnical, geophysical and construction materials testing consulting services, Van Aken will lead GMC’s geotechnical and CMT efforts in Greenville, along with its additional locations throughout the Carolinas, including Charleston, Columbia and Charlotte.

This includes managing its new, full-service geotechnical and materials testing laboratory in Greenville. Having a local lab will allow GMC to better serve its clients, both existing and prospective, by expanding its local testing capabilities.

South Carolina is an integral area for GMC’s geotechnical division growth. Van Aken has already been a part of that development through the team’s work on the Lake Keowee Water Treatment Plant and the Clemson/Pendleton Wastewater Treatment Plant, for which GMC designed, permitted and is currently performing construction administration.

Van Aken has already grown his team across the region with the addition of engineering technician Matthew Cody in Greenville and Tyler Christmas in Augusta, Georgia, to provide construction materials testing and inspection services for the firm’s local projects.
