March 28, 2016

Cody Harbold, 10th grade student at Goose Creek High School, won first place in the High School Division of the Electrician Fair Competition at Trident Technical College.

“I really liked taking what I learned and using it in real life,” said Harbold.

A student in the Academy of Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies at Goose Creek High, Harbold participated in the competition sponsored by the Charleston Electrical Contractors Association on March 19. As a result of his work, Harbold received $300 worth of electrical tools, as well as two apprenticeship offers. He will be recognized at an awards banquet next month where he will receive an additional $200.

Career and Technical Education Department Chair and Mechanics Instructor at Goose Creek High, Don Blair, said, “For me, as an instructor, I like to see my students succeed at any level. For Cody to take what he’s learned in his career and academic classes and apply it to a competition and career like this is like getting a Christmas bonus in March.”

The Charleston Electrical Contractors Association is a group of local electrical contractors with the common goal to better the electrical industry. The organization offers apprenticeships through its Tri-County Electrical Apprenticeship Committee (www.cecasc.org).
