Gordon Schreck honored with the Maritime Association of South Carolina’s prestigious Beacon Award
February 15, 2018Gordon Schreck, recently retired partner in Womble Bond Dickinson’s Charleston office, has been honored with the Maritime Association of South Carolina’s prestigious Beacon Award for “his distinguished service to the maritime industry”. The award was presented February 9 at the 2018 Annual Meeting & Gala, attended by some 650 Association members, state and local lawmakers, and others involved in the transportation and logistics sector.
The Beacon Award has traditionally been given to recognize distinguished careers in the Port of Charleston’s maritime transportation industry, but Schreck was the first practicing attorney to receive the award. It was presented to him by Capt. Whit Smith, President of the Charleston Harbor Pilots’ Assoc., and a member of the board of the South Carolina State Ports Authority. In making the presentation, Capt. Smith noted Schreck had been involved, as counsel for ship owner interests, in virtually every major marine casualty case at the Port of Charleston in the last 50 years.
