SCE&G Announces $200,000 Donation, Gov. Haley Renews Call For South Carolinians To Donate

Governor Nikki Haley celebrated the One SC Relief Fund’s work during a visit to South Carolina Electric & Gas Company’s (SCE&G) Delivery Operations Center.

As a part of today’s celebration, SCE&G President of Retail Operations Keller Kissam announced a surprise $100,000 donation to One SC from SCE&G. Combined with the company’s previous pledge of $100,000, SCE&G’s total contribution to One SC is now $200,000.

“When you look at the donations of a company like SCE&G that’s thinking past just getting the power back on, but actually thinking about getting people back into safe homes, and when you look at what neighbors are doing to help each other, whether they know each other or not, this is one South Carolina, it has always been one South Carolina, and that’s why we call this the One SC Fund,” said Gov. Nikki Haley.

SCANA Corporation CEO Kevin Marsh and Central Carolina Community Foundation CEO JoAnn Turnquist were also on hand for the governor’s visit.

“It’s hard to believe that just one year after the historic floods in South Carolina, the Palmetto state is now recovering from Hurricane Matthew,” said Marsh, chief executive officer of SCANA Corporation, parent company of SCE&G. “We are grateful for everything the One SC Relief Fund has done to help our neighbors here in South Carolina recover from these natural disasters, and we’re proud to announce our support for these relief efforts today. Although there’s still lot of work to be done to get the lives and homes of many South Carolinians back to normal, we believe our state will be stronger in the long run.”

Established to assist South Carolinians recovering from natural disasters, the One SC Fund’s first project was providing relief and recovery assistance to South Carolinians in the aftermath of last year’s thousand year flood. Thanks to generous donors, One SC has distributed nearly $2,000,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations supporting flood recovery projects across our state. Those grants have resulted in approximately 1,500 families returning home.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Governor Haley, alongside the Central Carolina Community Foundation, announced a plan to expand fundraising efforts of the One SC Fund to help those impacted by the storm.
