Greenville Chamber Calling For Athena Organizational Leadership Award® Nominations

September 22, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC –  The Greenville Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the ATHENA Organizational Leadership Award® to be presented at the third annual ATHENA Leadership Symposium November 4, 2014. The ATHENA Organizational Leadership Award® is presented to an organization for supporting and developing women leaders.

Member organizations with initiatives dedicated to creating cultures that encourage women employees to achieve their full leadership potential, and that give back to the larger community of women, should consider applying for the prestigious award. Organizations that aim to develop leadership skills in female youth are also eligible. Both non-profit and for-profit Chamber members may apply.

“The ultimate goal of the ATHENA Organizational Leadership Award is to increase the positive impact of women’s leadership in our community,” says Dr. Judith Prince, Director of Academic Engagement at USC Upstate Greenville and past ATHENA Leadership Award® recipient. This award is presented each year at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting to women who have made significant contributions to Greenville in promoting community prosperity and quality of life. Prince, along with other ATHENA recipients, make up the volunteer planning committee for the ATHENA Leadership Symposium.

The award will be presented at the symposium which will be held from 4:00 to 6:30 pm at TD Convention Center with keynote speaker Dr. Elizabeth Davis, President of Furman University. Davis will address the topic Advancing Women’s Leadership and Corporate Board Service.

This unique women’s leadership program is inspired by recipients of the ATHENA Leadership Award® and offered as part of CAPACITY, the Greenville Chamber’s Diversity and Inclusion initiative. It is one of multiple opportunities the Chamber executes to advance leadership diversity within underrepresented populations. “Leadership diversity is critical to the achievement of the Chamber’s vision of Greenville becoming the premier business community in the world,” says Nika White, Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at the Greenville Chamber.

“Women continue to be underrepresented at senior levels of leadership, on corporate boards, and as entrepreneurs,” says Prince. “Clearly, there is much work to be done in South Carolina and the Upstate to provide an environment in which women can move forward as leaders.”

The nomination deadline is October 1. For more information, and to download a nomination form, visit http://www.greenvillechamber.org/athena-symposium.php.
