Greenville City Council takes first step to redevelop City Hall
September 23, 2024Transformation is coming to City Hall’s downtown location on Main Street. At its Sept. 23, 2024, meeting, Greenville City Council authorized negotiations for the redevelopment of 206 S. Main Street.
The unanimous vote allows the City Manager to enter into a non-binding Letter of Intent with M Peters Group. A formal development agreement will follow. The City intends to retain ownership of five to six floors of the redeveloped building and some common areas for a new Council Chambers. The remaining floors will contain mixed uses of residential, office and restaurant space.
The 206 South Main facility was constructed in 1972 and requires major updates. Additionally, multiple city departments are moving to the new Public Safety and Municipal Complex at 204 Halton Road this fall, allowing for a smaller downtown footprint. While the City previously considered proposals from M. Peters Group for City Hall redevelopment, design plans and terms of a future agreement will be different.
