Bon Secours St. Francis Health System Announces New CEO

GREENVILLE, SC – After the completion of an extensive national search, Bon Secours Health System and the Bon Secours St. Francis Board of Directors are announcing R. Craig McCoy, as the new Chief Executive Officer for Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville, SC. McCoy will assume his responsibilities on June 8, 2015. A search committee consisting of physician leaders, Board members and senior management coordinated the search process and made the recommendation of Mr. McCoy to the Board.

A hospital leader with more than 20 years’ healthcare experience, McCoy comes to Bon Secours from Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, GA, where he most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, a Catholic joint venture with Trinity Health and the only community hospital to receive 5 consecutive Magnet designations. Prior to his time at Emory, McCoy served as Chief Executive Officer at Paradise Valley Hospital, Phoenix, AZ, and Vice President Professional Services at Oconee Medical Center in Seneca, SC.

McCoy has extensive ties to Greenville, SC, having grown up in the community. He graduated from Furman University in Business Administration. While earning his master’s degree in health administration from Clemson University/Medical University of South Carolina, he was called to community service with Greenville County EMS. “Serving as a paramedic gave me a strong base of clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills for the daily challenges in the ever-changing world of health care,” says McCoy.

“I am looking forward to serving with Craig in his new role as CEO. I think he brings many wonderful gifts to our ministry to enhance and grow our service in the community. Mark Nantz has provided a firm foundation during his time as CEO, moving our ministry forward in significant ways through extensive growth of the Bon Secours Medical Group and the formation and construction of the St. Francis Cancer Center and acquiring the naming rights to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Craig will have the opportunity to build and expand on these good works in collaboration with a highly skilled and committed medical staff, leadership team and Board,” said Thomas H. Morris, Senior Vice President, Sponsorship and Theology / Bon Secours Health System.

“Craig is joining the Bon Secours ministry at an exciting time; Bon Secours St. Francis is positioned for tremendous growth. Craig’s proven track record in coordinating the dynamics of physicians, staff and patient care and leading organizational transformation to provide greater value to our patients and the purchasers of care will take our Health System to the next level.” said Mark Nantz.

Camilla Hertwig, Board Chair / Bon Secours St. Francis Health System said, “The Board was tremendously impressed with what Craig will bring to this ministry. His Greenville ties give him added appreciation of our mission to build healthy communities and to further the Sisters’ legacy to be good help to all we serve.”
