Greenville responds to Inaugural Project Rx take-back event

GREENVILLE, SC – November 15, 2010 – Project Rx: A River Remedy, a community-driven medication collection event, collected 220 pounds of medication from the Greenville residents last Saturday at Greenville Technical College.

Estimated 185-200 vehicles drove-through the Project Rx collection stations dropping off total volumes of more than 40 pounds of controlled drugs and more than 180 pounds of non-controlled drugs for law enforcement to properly dispose of through incineration. The majority of the medications collected were pills but also included some liquid, powder and ointment medications, as well as additional pharmaceutical supplies such as inhalers. Notable amongst the collected medications include the most dated, which was a 1968 medication prescribed from Greenville General Hospital.

The Project Rx community task force includes Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville Family Partnership, Greenville Safe Communities, Greenville Technical College and Renewable Water Resources. The planning committee proudly thanks all of the volunteers and the members of the Greenville Community for attending the event and will announce continuing collection dates in the coming months.
