Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Commission elects new officers

November 18, 2025

At its November 10 meeting, the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Commission elected Doug Smith to serve as Chair and Leland Burch to serve as Vice Chair, effective January 1, 2026. Smith, who has represented Spartanburg County on the Commission since 2011 and most recently served as Vice Chair, will become only the third individual to hold the position of Chair in the Commission’s history, following Roger Milliken and Minor Shaw.

“The Commission is committed to providing strong governance and strategic direction for Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport,” said Smith. “It is an honor to serve as Chair alongside such dedicated Commissioners. We thank Minor for her many years of leadership and value her continued service as we work together to support the airport’s ongoing success.”

Burch, who has represented Greenville County since 1985, will assume the role of Vice Chair. His long tenure reflects a deep commitment to the airport’s success and to the Upstate communities it serves.

Shaw, who has served on the Commission since 1994 and as Chair since 2011, will continue to represent Greenville County after stepping down from the Chair role. “Serving as Chair has been a privilege, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished as a Commission,” said Shaw. “Our shared focus on excellence will continue to guide the airport’s growth in the years ahead.”

The Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Commission is composed of six members appointed by the Governor – three representing Greenville County and three representing Spartanburg County. The Commission provides oversight and strategic leadership for Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport.
