Greenville Student Wins BB&T’s “This School’s Got Talent” Statewide Search
April 2, 2012Talent Contest Winner to Headline South Carolina Teacher of the Year Celebration and Open BMW Charity Golf Tournament Concert
GREENVILLE, SC – April 2, 2012 – Hannah Peeples, a 16-year-old sophomore at Wade Hampton High School and the Fine Arts Center of Greenville has won the statewide BB&T “This School’s Got Talent” competition. She won the most votes online among 11 finalists in the contest organized by South Carolina Future Minds, the non-profit that organizes private support for public schools.
As a result, Peeples has earned the opportunity to perform LIVE at the televised “South Carolina Teacher of the Year Celebration” on May 1 in Columbia. She is also invited to perform at the opening concert for the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation on May 18th in Greer, which will feature members of the GRAMMY Award-winning super-group Hootie & The Blowfish and other celebrity performers.
Celebrity judges from Hootie & The Blowfish helped select the top entries. HBF bass guitarist Dean Felber and lead guitarist Mark Bryan joined their former tour manager and current annual golf tournament director Paul Graham,to narrow down the pool of talent to twelve finalists. The final videos were then posted online and opened to all voters!
This was the second year of the contest, which was open to students between 1st and 12th grades in all South Carolina public schools. To enter, adults 18 or older could submit videos of students showcasing their skills on the South Carolina Future Minds Facebook page. Videos had to be at least thirty seconds in length and could not exceed five minutes. Peeples won with her rendition of “I Hope You Dance,” originally sung by Lee Ann Womack.
